Research Projects:
1. Document Image Understanding (Automatic Conversion of Information Media)
The automatic conversion
technique of information on the paper into the computer isn't
established yet, and the information is usually converted by
manual. The goal of this project is the establish of the
automatic conversion algorithm from paper documents, which
include texts, figures and tables, into digital documents. We are
researching the algorithm about the printed and handwritten
documents using digital image processing and pattern recognition.
2. Visual Interface (Tele Education Supporting System Using
Image Motion)
The quality of the moving pictures used on tele education and
tele conference is low for viewer if a cameraman doesn't operate
a camera. The viewer can't be satisfied for the quality, and the
viewer bores the scene. Because the clarity of the lecturer's
face, characters or figures on the black board is low for the
resolution of the camera, and the visual communication system
can't carry the feeling of the lecturer to the viewer. We are
researching the detection of image motion for a tele education
supporting system to capture appropriate images.
3.Medical
Electronics (Signal and Image Processing for Heart Motion)
An early diagnosis and an
appropriate cure can recover from the heart disease. In this
project, we use the ultrasonic beam for the motion detection of
the local heart muscle, and we are developing the new imaging
techniques for the medical diagnosis using the radio frequency
signal processing and the motion image analysis.
4. Automatic Test Pattern
Generation System for LSI testing (Compact Current Test Set
Generation Method)
With the number of transistors on a LSI increasing, the
testing cost of LSI is becoming high due to long LSI testing
time. In order to keep the testing cost down, i.e. to test each
LSI quickly, we have been developing algorithms for generating
compact test pattern sets with small number of tests, especially
for the current testing method which effectively detects
short-family faults.
5.Intelligent
Education Supporting System (Development of Software for Computer
Aided Instruction(CAI))
The computer is going to be introduced into school for the
social needs, but the number of excellent educational software is
small. The useful educational softwares for the various area are
required. We are researching the scheduling system of lectures
and the constructing tool for Computer Aided Instruction (CAI).
6. Intelligent Fire Judgment System (Learning Algorithm from Time
Series)
Recently, every building has
fire alarm systems to detect a fire in its early stages and not
to spread the damage of the fire. However, the simple logic of
the fire judgment systems causes false alarm many times and it
reduces the reliability of the system. We are developing the
intelligent fire judgment system that can judge them fire or
non-fire in the early stage using the time series of the smoke
density data.
7. Intelligent System Using
Genetic Algorithm (Automatic Acquisition of knowledge)
Fuzzy controls have widely used in
industry for their high degree of performance in human-computer
interactions. Demand for fuzzy inference systems that can
describe complex, multi-input/output systems is growing. We are
researching the automatic acquisition of knowledge using the soft
computing techniques. We are also researching the Genetic
Algorithm, which is one of the algorithms in the soft computing
techniques, and its applications.
